For the many gadget lovers out there who rock a Samsung phone, there’s no better smart watch to pair with it than a Samsung Galaxy Watch. With the two devices communicating seamlessly with each other, they each make for the perfect companions to support wearer’s on their fitness journey.

Samsung recently released the Galaxy Watch 8, which brings with it some brand new features, not least of which is a slightly bigger screen and a larger battery. On the whole though, it’s not a complete revelation on the model that came before it, or even the model before that.

For those that don’t mind picking up a smart watch from a couple generations past, the new Galaxy Watch 8 has considerably driven down the price of the Galaxy Watch 6. As such, it’s now available for the ‘lowest price ever’ over at Argos down at £249.

The device has everything you could want from a modern smart watch fitness tracker, including a heart rate monitor to keep track of your ticker. Not only does it do this during exercise, but it also does so while you sleep, providing insights into how the wearer slept.

Although the large screen can be navigated by touch, the outer bezel also rotates to allow the wearer to select options without touching the screen. This might sound like a small feature, but it’s a lifesaver in winter when you’re out for a run and don’t want to take your gloves off.

What’s more, there’s a GPS sensor in here too for those of us that like to track our workouts and upload them straight to Strava afterwards. The watch might need charging once per day, which is a slight downside, but it recharges in just over an hour which makes the process slightly less irritating.

Those looking for a watch that can last up to a week might enjoy one of the Garmin Forerunner watches. The Forerunner 55 is currently down to £134.99 instead of £174.99 at Boots.

iPhone users might benefit from an Apple Watch instead of a Samsung model. The Apple Watch SE is the cheapest of the bunch, coming in at £219 at Amazon.

Reviews of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 are mostly positive, with one shopper writing: “I got this watch to retire my old Galaxy Watch 4, and the upgrade was truly worth it. The watch is immensely easier to use with the physical turning bezel, runs much smoother and has a fantastic timeless look with the metal.”

A second shopper adds: “Bought as a gift for my 12 year old grandson. He loves it! He’s very tech savvy and likes all the features. He’s very active so it’s great for tracking all his sports.” Meanwhile, a third buyer writes: “Watch looks great and apps run smoothly and quickly. Battery life could be better but in line with other smart watches I have owned.”

The more negative reviews of the watch are critical of the battery, with one write-up saying: “I am enjoying some features of the watch but find the battery life is shorter than any previous smart watch I have owned. It barely manages to last a full 24 hours.”

Another wearer felt the same way, saying: “Great health features, easy to use. Great screen. Seamless phone syncing. Let down by extremely poor battery life.”
