Fabio Jakobsen’s recovery after surgery for flow limitation in the iliac artery in both of his legs, has seen him steadily return to racing in the past few weeks – where he and the team aimed to get that racing sharpness and rhythm back at the hotly contested Renewi Tour. Unfortunately on stage three of the race, Fabio was involved in a crash early in the day and was immediately taken to the local race hospital. At the hospital, tests were carried out which confirmed what was suspected; Fabio fractured his collarbone in the fall.
Team Picnic PostNL doctor Camiel Aldershof explained: “Fabio’s return to racing was going well and he was making the steps that we expected. However, he crashed pretty hard during yesterday’s Renewi Tour stage and unfortunately broke his collarbone. He underwent surgery last night, which went well, and will now focus on his recovery in the next few days, before we then look to a plan for him to get back to full training.”
Jakobsen added: “I was really enjoying be back with the team on the road and doing what I enjoy the most – racing my bike. This is of course a set-back, but hopefully I can be back training soon and from there we will make a plan for any upcoming races.”
