After a record number of British players progressed in the early stages at Wimbledon, there was quiet confidence that the US Open could prove another profitable Grand Slam for this nation.
Especially given that they were already promised a strong contingent in the main draw, given their various rankings.
On top of that, there were also plenty of big names who were hopeful about navigating their way through qualifying too, with the likes of Dan Evans and Jodie Burrage forced to try and gain entry in this format.
And now, with the qualifying concluded, we officially know exactly how many Brits will be competing for the title in New York.
The only British player who successfully made it through US Open qualifying
With Evans and Johannus Monday out in the first round, and Burrage and Jay Clarke out in the second round, there were just two Brits left, just one win away from a main draw berth.
That is, without mentioning the Brit who blew three match points before losing in US Open qualifying too.
On the women’s side, Francesca Jones spearheaded hopes, while Billy Harris was hoping to bypass Coleman Wong to book his spot in the main draw.
The former was up first, and she impressed once again, sweeping aside Arianne Hartono in straight sets.
For her troubles, she has been gifted the opportunity to play against the talented 23-year-old Eva Lys.
A formidable opponent who has earned some impressive wins throughout this year, the German represents a tough but completely winnable match-up for the 24-year-old.
Harris was not so lucky, losing to Wong in the third round. Or so we thought.
Billy Harris gets into US Open main draw as a lucky loser
After all, with a handful of late withdrawals, British tennis was gifted another entrant into the main draw, as Harris was handed a lucky loser spot alongside Jaime Faria and James Duckworth.
So, the 30-year-old will now face Felix Auger-Aliassime, in what is a fantastic opportunity to potentially claim a huge scalp against a wildly out-of-form player.

He joins the likes of Jack Draper, Jacob Fearnley and Cameron Norrie seeking to mount a male challenge at the US Open.
Meanwhile, on the women’s side, Jones joins compatriots Emma Raducanu, Katie Boulter and Sonay Kartal in the main draw.
Raducanu has been handed a nightmare draw at the US Open, who, alongside Draper, will spearhead hopes of bringing home the title.
