Scully is joining fellow RL Hall of Fame inductee Adrian Morley, former England international Shaun Lunt and 14 other riders to cycle from the US capital, Washington DC, to Central Park in the heart of New York city.

DC2NYC is a 400-mile, six-day adventure organised by the sport’s official charity, Rugby League Cares, which will use all the proceeds to fund a wide range of health and wellbeing projects, including its monthly Brain Health Clinics which support players suffering from memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

“It’s going to be a massive challenge for everyone but I’m really looking forward to it,” said Scully. “I’m a huge fan of the work that RL Cares does, including the important support it provides to seriously injured players through the RL Benevolent Fund, and it’s great to be able to put something back.

“The charity’s Brain Health Fund is something I’m really keen to support. Many of us will have older family members or friends who have experience of dementia or caring for someone with this horrible condition, so it’s a privilege for me to be able to help.

“The ride also promises to be a lot of fun in terrific company. Moz and I, in particular, go back a long way and as the two youngest members of the RL Hall of Fame we’ll have lots to talk about as we make our way to the Big Apple!”

The route of DC2NYC takes the riders past some of the world’s most iconic landmarks, including the White House, the Lincoln Monument, the Liberty Bell, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and the steps leading up to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, up which Sylvester Stallone ran in the Hollywood film, Rocky.

The ride, which is sponsored by home energy specialists Green Central, sets out from Washington on Sunday September 7th and arrives in Manhattan the following Friday.
