Becoming interested in photography around four years ago, Dale Bristo’s passion continued to develop after he began to acquire professional tools and equipment.
After winning a Merseyside photography competition last year, which highlighted his talent and granted him funds to spend on further equipment, Dale has been able to take much more interesting shots over the past year.

Dale has taken a particular interest in edited shots of the railways (Image: Dale Bristo) And with Dale also learning more about the art form at St Helens College, the 18-year-old has often progressed his images further using photoshop and ‘lightroom’ tools, which can enhance the colour, lighting, and effects of the original shot.
This is something that Dale has been increasingly practicing over the past year, and one of his shots, of an edited, hyper-lapsed image of a Merseyrail train at Liverpool Central station, has earned the 18-year-old the title of ‘Young Railway Photographer of the Year’.
With Dale also having a real interest in the railways and their history, this was an amazing achievement for the young photographer, particularly as his work appeared in a National Railway Museum exhibition in York and was celebrated on BBC Radio Merseyside.
Dale’s award-winning photograph at Liverpool Central station (Image: Dale Bristo) Dale, from Moss Bank, said: “I entered the competition in December last year, and was shortlisted from over 300 entries to be shortlisted.
“After being shortlisted, my photo appeared at the National Railway Museum and then I was chosen as the overall winner.
“To see it up there on the wall felt amazing, I still can’t believe it’s happened.”
While Dale retains a passion for photography, and hopes that there will be opportunities to take his interest professionally, he has also been looking at employment opportunities in the railway industry after graduating from St Helens College.
