A British man claims he is now “making a living” from selling St George’s and Union flags to fellow patriots. Colin, who shares content under the handle @bigc_1969 to over 32,000 followers on TikTok, said his neighbour recently complained about the flag in his garden which has sparked his latest business venture.
He recently posted a video on the social media site which has been liked by close to 60,000 people. Colin explained how, after his neighbour complained, he erected a bigger Union flag in his garden. He is now urging people to fly their flags with “pride”.
Colin said in the video: “Somebody complained about my flag and I stood up to them. I had a little flag up there and they complained to the council so I got a bigger flag.
“Now, thanks to that person, I’m now making a living out of selling flags and flag poles. So if you’re patriotic like me and want to stand up for yourself and this country, then do yourself a favour and go down to the link below and I’ll look after you.
“Look, lovely British flags. Fly them with pride. Don’t be a coward, fly your flags with pride and if they don’t like it, you buy a bigger one.”
St George’s and Union flags have been going up in cities, towns and villages across the UK in recent weeks as Operation Raise the Colours sweeps the country. Those responsible for putting up the flags claim they are motivated by patriotism.
However, others feel the flags are provocative at a time when tensions are high over immigration. Some local councils have since taken down flags which has sparked fury among local communities.
Meanwhile, business for flagmakers in the UK has boomed among the uptick in demand. Brian Speed, owner of The Flag Shop based in the Midlands, said he has become “unusually busy” during the school summer holidays.
He told the Express: “Usually, these sorts of flags this time of year, you’ve got a few going out, but I’ve been selling them by the hundreds this week. There’s been a lot going out this week compared to what it would normally be.”
His colleague added: “We’ve seen a massive increase in the purchasing of the St George’s flag, and the Union Jack flag. Mainly, I would say St George’s flag, but the Union Jack flag as well.”
