Mis Locuras Turns the Tables on Elenika in Their Third Clash / HLP
LA PLATA.- The third time proved the charm for Mis Locuras (Manipulator), who finally got the better of Elenika (Winning Prize)and wrestled away leadership among the fillies at La Plata with a commanding victory in Tuesday’s Clásico Diego White (G3, 1700m, dirt).
Runner-up to the heavy favorite in both the Clásico Raúl Aristegui (G2) and Clásico Miguel Luis Morales (G2)—the latter by 10 lengths when finishing third—Mis Locuras skipped the Polla (G3) and returned fresh to deliver a decisive four-length, wire-to-wire score over a rival who had dominated the division but may have felt the effects of a demanding schedule. Elenika had started six times in just four months, five of those in graded company.
With Miguel O. Sosa taking charge from the outset, Mis Locuras made full use of her natural speed, carving out splits of :24.76 and :48.13 before cruising around the turn well in hand. La Graviere (Seahenge) tried to keep pace while Elenika sat a pressured fourth, but once the field straightened, Mis Locuras powered clear. Pereyra urged Elenika in vain, as the frontrunner kicked on strongly to the line in 1:44.43, finishing four in front. La Banda (Fortify) closed late to claim third, another three lengths adrift.
Trained by Ángel Piana for Stud Don Ariel, Mis Locuras established herself as the new divisional leader, stamping her ticket toward the Gran Premio Selección de Potrancas (G1) in less than a month.
For Elenika, the defeat felt like losing twice in one afternoon: the Diego White slipped away, and so too, perhaps, her edge going into the Oaks—unless physical issues explain her below-par showing.
