EA and developer Full Circle have finally announced a release date for their reboot of the beloved Skate series.
The game, which is a free-to-play, social, open world skateboarding sim, is set to launch in early access on 16th September 2025 — and that includes PS5 and PS4.

There’s no word on when the final, 1.0, the-game-is-officially-done-now launch will be, but we’d expect the early access phase to go on for a while.
Announced all the way back in 2020, Skate has been a long time coming. After widespread pleas from fans to bring the series back, EA finally buckled, and has been working on this revival for half a decade.
In the last couple of years or so, developer Full Circle has opened the game up to select playtesters outside the studio, gathering data and feedback from community members as the game took shape.
Now, the game will soon be available for everyone to play, albeit in early access form.
This means the game isn’t finished, and will continue to evolve based on feedback from a much wider player base.
Skate is an always-online, free-to-play, live service game. It’s set in the open world city of San Vansterdam, a place that’ll evolve over time, much in the same way you’d see in something like Fortnite’s battle royale map.
The game has a purposely loose structure; once you’re through the tutorial, you can kind of go wherever you want and skate as you like.
You’ll be placed into an instance of the open world with up to 149 other players, the idea being you can just skate together in a pretty free-flowing way.
There are lots of missions and challenges dotted around, and completing these will unlock further missions and cosmetic rewards.
You’re also encouraged to use edit tools to create and share; certain spots on the map are there for you to create interesting lines using unlockable geometry and props. You also have access to a replay system, so you can capture your skating prowess from various angles.
It being a free game, there are of course a number of microtransactions and loot boxes to incentivise players to splash some cash.
However, from what we’ve seen so far, anything in the in-game store is purely cosmetic, and there’s no need to spend any money unless you want a specific outfit or deck.
On top of that, you’re able to earn plenty of cosmetics through regular play, so you shouldn’t be short of options anyway.
