Russia’s space agency Roscosmos is in deep doo doo.

I wouldn’t call it a collapse because some sort of bailout might happen, but at some point the Russian government won’t be able to keep bailing out all the industries in need of bailouts.

What this means for the future of the International Space Station is unknown — but it can’t be good.

Maybe this has something to do with it.

1/ Employees of Russia’s space agency are reported to have gone without pay for over three months, causing severe hardship to many. It likely reflects the increasing financial difficulties of the Russian government, exacerbated by the demands of the war in Ukraine. ⬇️

2/ JSC Sibpromproekt, formally the Siberian Institute for Design of Mechanical Engineering Enterprises, is a design institute of Roscosmos, the Russian State Corporation for Space Activities. The Zheleznogorsk-based company provides engineering and technical design services.

3/ According to the VChK-OGPU Telegram channel, Sibpromproekt employees have not been paid since 15 May. This includes vacation and severance pay as well as regular wages. The lack of pay has caused hardship to its employees who need money for mortgages, loan and subsistence.

“The situation is critical: multimillion-dollar debts, interest on loans are eating up the budget. RSC Energia, the manufacturer of the Soyuz and Progress spacecraft, is in deep crisis”

In his address, Maltsev noted the “multimillion-dollar debts ” and that “the foundation created by Sergei Pavlovich Korolev and developed by our general designers… has been squandered.” He emphasized that ” promises for all major projects have proven unfulfilled, all deadlines have been missed.”

It took several drone bombs but this Russian mine-laying vehicle produced quite a nice fire.

Locomotives make excellent targets.

Komi is a sparsely populated region well northeast of Moscow. Much of the growth in the Komi republic during the 20th century came from prisoners sent to gulag camps there.

The Aug 16–17 strike on the 108th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment and “Baltimore” airbase in Voronezh hit radar systems: a 76N6 and a 30N6, both part of the S-300PM2 system. Burn marks and the absence of equipment at known positions suggest successful destruction—possibly including two Su-24 aircraft

Russia legalizes criminal attacks on foreign websites.

x

Draft amendments to Russian criminal law will exempt hackers who DDoS-attack blocked websites, ie, impunity against independent media, NGOs, & foreign platforms. This will shred basic legal principles, violating Russia’s own constitutional equality before the law, & breaches int’l treaties.

He might have survived.

Or maybe not.

Russian: The drone can’t see me. I’m safe.

Narrator: No, he isn’t.

The problem with Russian thermal insulating ponchos is that they trap the heat, but still appear much colder than surrounding environment.

So instead of showing up as white (warm) spot that’s easy to detect with a thermal camera, they show up as black (cold) spot—still just as easy to detect.

It would seem ridiculous for a country experiencing gasoline shortages to increase oil exports, but if that oil can’t be refined because of Ukrainian attacks then it might as well be exported.

x

🛢️👀 Russia to increase crude oil exports by 200,000 barrels per day in August due to Ukrainian strikes on refineries — Reuters.

Such a decision will affect the western Russian ports of Primorsk, Novorossiysk and Ust-Luga. Instead of the planned 1.8 million barrels per day, it will reach 2 million.
