Man United fans have called out Andre Onana after the team’s shock Carabao Cup exit to fourth-tier Grimsby Town.
Man United went into the fixture as heavy favourites but were stunned in a classic giant-killing, with League Two Grimsby holding them to a 2-2 draw before winning on penalties.
Onana has already been under scrutiny at Old Trafford, with Ruben Amorim leaving him out of the starting XI since the beginning of the season. The defeat has now piled more criticism on the goalkeeper, who has been singled out by supporters following the cup exit.
Football Insider previously reported that Man United were open to selling Onana this summer, but with little interest from elsewhere, he was reintegrated into the squad. However, after his latest display, fans have again been quick to call him out.
Andre Onana struggles again in Man United return
Onana came under fire even before the penalty shootout, with Grimsby striking first after 21 minutes. A slick counter-attack ended with Charles Vernam finding space in the box before drilling a low shot past the goalkeeper at his near post.
United’s defensive frailties from set pieces also resurfaced. Amorim’s side conceded 13 goals from set piece situations in the Premier League last season, and Grimsby exploited that weakness again.
Onana failed to deal with a crowded penalty area and appeared to miss the ball completely, allowing former United trialist Tyrell Warren to tap in from close range.

Frustration among supporters was already high, but the penalty shootout made matters worse. Despite getting a hand to as many as five spot-kicks, Onana managed to save only one of the 13 penalties taken by the visitors, who won 12-11 in the shootout.

His poor display added to growing frustration following last season’s Europa League final, where many Man United fans called Onana to be sold following his display against Tottenham. Now, calls for the club to part ways with the Cameroon international have grown louder after another costly performance.

With only days left in the transfer window, fans have been vocal in urging the club to sell the 29-year-old. His errors in open play and his struggles in the shootout have only intensified the calls for change in goalkeeper.
Football Insider have reported that Man United are closing in on goalkeeper Sam Lammens, adding further fuel to speculation over Onana’s long-term future. After his latest display, supporters are calling for change.
One fan fumed: “Onana looks petrified in goal against these penalties. Sell him tonight!! Terminate his contract!!” Another added: “Onana should have his contract ripped up, at fault for two goals then lets FIVE PENALTIES RIGHT THROUGH HIS HANDS.”
