Just as he did 12 months ago, and back to the level he showed then, the\u00a0Suggestive Boy\u00a0colt recorded back-to-back wins in the race honoring the unforgettable son of Friul, all but assuring his nomination as the\u00a0Jockey Club Argentino\u2019s representative in October\u2019s\u00a0Gran Premio Latinoamericano (G1)\u00a0at\u00a0Hip\u00f3dromo da G\u00e1vea\u00a0in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.<\/p>\n
Though he came into the race off a win in the\u00a0Cl\u00e1sico Potrill\u00f3n\u00a0following a comeback defeat, the version of Vundu on display this time was sharper and more authoritative, dismissing a solid field\u2014even without the presence of\u00a0Qu\u00e9 Tarde Gris (Il Campione)\u2014that included some of the division\u2019s leading names.<\/p>\n
Carrying the silks of\u00a0Stud Gran Ascochinga, and relishing the quick ground\u2014as did fellow stakes winners\u00a0Catys Queen (Lizard Island)\u00a0and\u00a0Forgging (Forge)\u00a0on the card\u2014Vundu built his victory step by step under a confident ride from\u00a0Mart\u00edn Valle.<\/p>\n
Allowed to dictate a relaxed pace through opening fractions of\u00a0:25.91\u00a0and\u00a0:49.87, he began to turn the screws midway on the far turn, steadily increasing the tempo as his rivals tried to close in. Once straightened for home, he only got stronger, keeping all challengers at bay and drawing clear with authority.<\/p>\n
At the wire, Vundu held a\u00a02 1\/2-length\u00a0advantage over\u00a0Capit\u00e1n Kid (Daniel Boone)\u2014who had pushed him to the limit in the Potrill\u00f3n\u2014with\u00a0Honest Boy (Heliostatic)\u00a0and\u00a0Don Tigre (Cityscape)\u00a0finishing together another three-quarters of a length back.
