Full Serrano Targets a Much Less Demanding Race for His Return \/ BREEDERS’ CUP<\/p>\n

DEL MAR, California (Special for Turf Diario).- It appears there\u2019s a shift in strategy for\u00a0Full Serrano, as sources told\u00a0Turf Diario\u00a0that the Argentine star will likely\u00a0skip Saturday\u2019s Del Mar Mile (G2), opting instead to run Monday in an\u00a0optional claiming allowance\u00a0over a mile at Del Mar.<\/p>\n

Inactive since his dominant victory in last year\u2019s\u00a0Breeders\u2019 Cup Dirt Mile (G1), the\u00a0Full Mast\u00a0colt had been expected to return on the turf during the\u00a0Pacific Classic (G1)\u00a0card, facing the two top milers in California. However, a conditional spot with just five rivals on the dirt\u2014the surface that brought him global fame\u2014presents a simpler and more appealing option, particularly with the\u00a0Breeders\u2019 Cup Classic (G1)\u00a0as the primary target and a potential defense of his Dirt Mile title also under consideration.<\/p>\n

Bred by\u00a0Haras Gran Mu\u00f1eca\u00a0and owned by\u00a0Hronis Racing, Full Serrano is the\u00a0heavy favorite\u00a0for Monday\u2019s second race: a\u00a0$100,000 optional claiming allowance, with\u00a0$82,000 in purse money. Drawn widest in post 6, all participants will carry\u00a0121 pounds.<\/p>\n

Trainer\u00a0John Sadler\u00a0expressed the team\u2019s excitement to see the horse back in action, confirming he is fit and ready for the challenging return. Once again,\u00a0Juan J. Hern\u00e1ndez, Del Mar\u2019s leading rider, is slated to ride.<\/p>\n

Full Serrano will face an experienced field, headlined by\u00a0Two Rivers Over (Tamarkuz), the\u00a02024 Godolphin Mile (G1)winner at Meydan, who has not raced since finishing seventh in the\u00a0California Crown Stakes (G1)\u00a0last September.<\/p>\n

Other notable entries include\u00a0Packs a Wahlop (Creative Cause), winner of the\u00a0Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes (G3)\u00a0and\u00a0Zuma Beach Stakes (G3)\u00a0as a juvenile, and runner-up in the\u00a0Charles Whittingham Stakes (G2)\u2014all on turf;\u00a0Il Bellator (Shackleford),\u00a0California Derby (L)\u00a0winner in 2022;\u00a0American Admiral (American Pharoah), third in last year\u2019s\u00a0Laffit Pincay Jr. Stakes (G2); and\u00a0Ghazaaly (Curlin), coming off a claiming defeat.<\/p>\n

For Full Serrano, this race provides the\u00a0perfect opportunity to shake off inactivity\u00a0and prepare for a much more demanding future.
