But what does \u201cbrisk\u201d really mean?<\/p>\n<p>What is \u201cbrisk\u201d walking?<\/p>\n<p>Brisk walking can sound a little vague and relative, and it\u2019s true that everyone\u2019s pace. <\/p>\n<p>But in general, among healthy adults,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/live-well\/exercise\/walking-for-health\/\" target=\"_blank\" role=\"link\" class=\" js-entry-link cet-external-link\" data-vars-item-name=\" the NHS says\" data-vars-item-type=\"text\" data-vars-unit-name=\"68b0441ce4b0d087ed3efa53\" data-vars-unit-type=\"buzz_body\" data-vars-target-content-id=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/live-well\/exercise\/walking-for-health\/\" data-vars-target-content-type=\"url\" data-vars-type=\"web_external_link\" data-vars-subunit-name=\"article_body\" data-vars-subunit-type=\"component\" data-vars-position-in-subunit=\"6\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> the NHS says<\/a> that \u201cA brisk walk is about 3 miles [4.8km] an hour, which is faster than a stroll.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>A good way to tell if you\u2019re reaching this pace is through a \u201csing test,\u201d which has to do with your vocal control. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can tell you\u2019re walking briskly if you can still talk but cannot sing the words to a song,\u201d the health service explained. <\/p>\n<p><a you\u2019re walking fast enough to feel warmer and breathe a bit harder, but still able to hold a conversation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re still unsure, you can use fitness watches and apps on your phone to work out your pace. <\/p>\n<p>Why is brisk walking healthier for us?<\/p>\n<p>Brisk walking has <a js-entry-link cet-external-link\" data-vars-item-name=\"the NHS says\" data-vars-item-type=\"text\" data-vars-unit-name=\"68b0441ce4b0d087ed3efa53\" data-vars-unit-type=\"buzz_body\" data-vars-target-content-id=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/live-well\/exercise\/walking-for-health\/\" data-vars-target-content-type=\"url\" data-vars-type=\"web_external_link\" data-vars-subunit-name=\"article_body\" data-vars-subunit-type=\"component\" data-vars-position-in-subunit=\"13\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the NHS says<\/a>, you \u201cdo not have to walk for hours\u201d. <\/p>\n<p>Ten minutes of brisk walking a day, they say, \u201chas lots of health benefits and counts towards your 150 minutes of weekly
