{"id":111019,"date":"2025-09-03T07:54:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-03T07:54:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/111019\/"},"modified":"2025-09-03T07:54:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T07:54:10","slug":"coco-gauff-leaves-former-world-no-1-worried-after-catastrophic-issue-in-us-open-exit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/111019\/","title":{"rendered":"Coco Gauff leaves former world No 1 &#8216;worried&#8217; after &#8216;catastrophic&#8217; issue in US Open exit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former world No 1 Justine Henin has proclaimed that the \u201clack of evolution\u201d in Coco Gauff\u2019s game worries her after the American star\u2019s exit from the 2025 US Open.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/coco-gauff\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gauff<\/a> suffered a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/us-open\/naomi-osaka-destroys-coco-gauff-usopen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">crushing 3-6, 2-6 defeat to 23rd seed and four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in the last 16 at Flushing Meadows in Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a lopsided contest, Gauff hit eight winners, but lost a mammoth 33 of the 88 points in the match with unforced errors, five of which were double faults.<\/p>\n<p>The world No 3 won only 54% of her service points as she was broken four times in her nine service games by her Japanese rival.<\/p>\n<p>Former world No 1 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/naomi-osaka\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Osaka<\/a> won 94% of points behind her first serve and lost only six of 38 total points on her serve, while she had only one service game where she lost more than a single point.<\/p>\n<p>In the week before the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/us-open\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">US Open<\/a>, Gauff took the big decision to replace her coach Matt Daly with biomechanics expert Gavin MacMillan \u2014 with the aim of solving her serving struggles.<\/p>\n<p>The 21-year-old, who is a two-time major winner, changed her service motion despite the short window before her home Grand Slam tournament began.<\/p>\n<p>Coco Gauff News<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/coco-gauff-usopen-serving-problems-tennis\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Why the time has come for Coco Gauff to take a step back from competitive tennis<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/us-open\/why-coco-gauff-has-every-reason-to-be-excited-despite-us-open-exit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Why Coco Gauff has every reason to be \u2018excited\u2019 despite US Open exit<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gauff showed immense resilience to battle through major issues with her game and stress in her first two matches against Ajla Tomljanovic and Donna Vekic before claiming a routine third round win over Magdalena Frech.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eurosport.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\">Eurosport France<\/a>, Henin described Gauff\u2019s forehand as \u201ccatastrophic\u201d against Osaka as she voiced her concerns over the American\u2019s development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOsaka did what she had to do by also playing with her experience,\u201d said the Belgian tennis legend, who won seven Grand Slam titles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe didn\u2019t have to force her talent today either, showing solidity and being present.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe felt from the start of the match that Coco Gauff had fallen back into her old ways, not especially in terms of her serve but in terms of her forehand, it was catastrophic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, this enormous pressure at the US Open is special for her, but I still think overall, over the whole season, and not so much on the results, what worries me is the lack of evolution in her game.
