Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet has offered a short but sweet injury update ahead of his side\u2019s derby with St Helens.<\/p>\n

Having faced off in Rivals Round in Round Eight on Good Friday, Wigan travel to face St Helens on Friday night<\/a> with much more than bragging rights on the line.<\/p>\n

Holding a two-point lead over third-place Leeds Rhinos, Wigan need to at least match the Rhinos\u2019 results in these next two games before the sides face off in Round 27 for a game that could decide who earns a home semi-final.<\/p>\n

Currently, Wigan\u2019s points difference is superior by 77 points but Leeds could close that gap before the final round to a small enough margin whereby a Rhinos win earns them second.<\/p>\n

With so much on the line, it\u2019s vital to get the best players out on the field but also to ensure that they do so without causing further injury, something that has plagued Wigan in regards the likes of Abbas Miski and Bevan French this season.<\/p>\n

Wigan Warriors to wait and see on injury issues<\/p>\n

French initially suffered his calf injury against Catalans in Round 12 before returning three weeks later, only to then miss 10 weeks through injury<\/a>. He\u2019s now back and firing and, featuring in the last two games for Wigan but significant players are still ruled out.<\/p>\n

Luke Thompson is one of those who is close with Peet stating before the Wakefield game<\/a> that he will be \u201ca couple of weeks, potentially more\u201d.<\/p>\n

Those two weeks have now passed but the update from Peet in regards the club\u2019s injuries is very similar.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s not much to tell yet, to be honest,\u201d the coach conceded, noting that any decisions will be made closer to game day on Friday.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cIt\u2019ll be later in the week, we\u2019ll just wait and see.\u201d<\/p>\n

As well as Thompson, Wigan also have Abbas Miski (ribs) and Adam Keighran (knee) with the latter withdrawing in the warm-up in the south of France before facing Catalans Dragons.<\/p>\n

Keighran had limped off the week before against Wakefield and Wigan will be hoping that his isn\u2019t another of the lingering issues that have plagued them.<\/p>\n

One player they will definitely be without is Patrick Mago after he failed his HIA against Catalans, however, he will likely be replaced by Ethan Havard who returns from his ban.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead to Friday\u2019s game, Peet previewed a game of defensive \u2018intensity and organisation\u2019, explaining: \u201cIt\u2019s going to take big plays to break that down and there\u2019ll be moments of brilliance\u201d.<\/p>\n

With both Bevan French and Jai Field firing lately, it could well be that pair once again who shine for Wigan Warriors.<\/p>\n
