{"id":111695,"date":"2025-09-03T14:37:08","date_gmt":"2025-09-03T14:37:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/111695\/"},"modified":"2025-09-03T14:37:08","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T14:37:08","slug":"horsing-around-racehorse-visits-childrens-special-needs-day-centre-photo-1-of-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/111695\/","title":{"rendered":"Horsing around: Racehorse visits children\u2019s special needs day centre &#8211; Photo 1 of 6"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"140\" data-end=\"314\">An Ascot racehorse swapped the track for the playground when it visited a\u00a0day centre for children with special needs last week.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, August 28, a team from Ascot Racecourse accompanied their equine ambassador, Side Glance, to visit children at Camp Mohawk &#8211; a multi-functional day centre for children with special needs and their families, based near Wargrave.<\/p>\n<p>This was part of Ascot\u2019s community outreach to spread awareness for National Racehorse Week (August 23-31).<\/p>\n<p>Children at the centre were able to meet former Group 1 winner Side Glance, who interacts with over 400 people each year including racegoers, local school children and care home residents.<\/p>\n<p>Side Glance is Ascot\u2019s equine ambassador through the Retraining of Racehorses Horses for Courses scheme.<\/p>\n<p>The children also experienced riding on a mechanical horse whilst learning more about the second careers of ex-racehorses and their welfare.<\/p>\n<p>All photos are by Mike Swift.
