Today, after learning way back in November 2024 that Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner was <a href=\"https:\/\/reactormag.com\/sophie-turner-looks-likely-to-play-lara-croft-in-tomb-raider-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" title=\" opens in a new window\">in talks to star<\/a>, we finally got official confirmation (via <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/09\/tomb-raider-sophie-turner-lara-croft-chad-hodge-phoebe-waller-bridge-1236505398\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" title=\" opens in a new window\">Deadline<\/a>) that she\u2019ll play Lara Croft on the upcoming show, which is set to start production on January 19, 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so excited to announce the formidable Sophie Turner as our Lara alongside this phenomenal creative team,\u201d Waller-Bridge said in a statement. \u201cIt\u2019s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving. Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is. Get your artifacts out\u2026 Croft is coming\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shouldn\u2019t we be hiding our artifacts from Lara? Since she is, indeed, a raider? But I digress\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The announcement of Turner\u2019s official involvement also came with another piece of news: Chad Hodge (<a href=\"https:\/\/reactormag.com\/wayward-pines-is-half-paradise-half-lost-all-crazy-town-banana-pants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" title=\" opens in a new window\">Wayward Pines<\/a>) is also on board to serve as co-showrunner with Waller-Bridge, while Jonathan Van Tulleken (Sh\u014dgun,\u00a0Dope Thief) will serve as a director and executive producer. Hodge was reportedly brought on during the second writers\u2019 room in an attempt to improve upon the first writers\u2019 room scripts. He was elevated to co-showrunner from there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft,\u201d Turner said in the same statement. \u201cShe\u2019s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many\u2014and I am giving everything I\u2019ve got. They\u2019re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina [Jolie] and Alicia [Vikander] with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands.
