{"id":113349,"date":"2025-09-04T06:32:17","date_gmt":"2025-09-04T06:32:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/113349\/"},"modified":"2025-09-04T06:32:17","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T06:32:17","slug":"east-grinstead-filmmaker-to-screen-bristol-to-beijing-cycle-film","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/113349\/","title":{"rendered":"East Grinstead filmmaker to screen Bristol to Beijing cycle film"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">A Sussex film-maker is holding a screening of his production which tells the story of a man with incurable cancer taking a 30,000km (18,641miles) tandem cycle from Bristol to Beijing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8216;A Life in Tandem&#8217; charts the journey of Luke Grenfell-Shaw, who embarked on the <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-bristol-61859069\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">mammoth cycle<\/a> after being diagnosed with stage four cancer in 2018 at just 24-years-old.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The production will be shown on Wednesday at the Atrium Cinema in East Grinstead, the home of creator Mike Rumsey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Mr Rumsey says the process of making what he calls &#8220;a family drama, on a bike&#8221; was challenging, as Covid hit soon after he met Mr Grenfell-Shaw in January 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">He said: &#8220;It [Covid] certainly made cycling around the world a lot more complicated, and [made] trying to make a film about someone cycling around the world a lot more complicated.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The filmmaker said that Mr Grenfell-Shaw, who hails from Bristol, is still in remission.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;The longer he lives, the longer he thinks he&#8217;s got really,&#8221; Mr Rumsey added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The pair are currently making a film about Mr Grenfell-Shaw&#8217;s first season as a professional ultra-marathon runner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The screening starts at 19:30 BST.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Sussex film-maker is holding a screening of his production which tells the story of a man with&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":113350,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[37],"tags":[4985,101,56,54,55],"class_list":{"0":"post-113349","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-cycling","8":"tag-cycling","9":"tag-sports","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom","12":"tag-unitedkingdom"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/113349","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=113349"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/113349\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/113350"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=113349"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=113349"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=113349"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
