{"id":114124,"date":"2025-09-04T14:09:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-04T14:09:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/114124\/"},"modified":"2025-09-04T14:09:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T14:09:07","slug":"bruce-springsteens-to-release-electric-nebraska-on-new-box-set","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/114124\/","title":{"rendered":"Bruce Springsteen&#8217;s to Release &#8216;Electric Nebraska&#8217; on new box set"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/bruce-springsteen\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bruce-springsteen\" data-tag=\"bruce-springsteen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bruce Springsteen<\/a> originally intended the home-recorded, solo-acoustic performances that became <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/nebraska\/\" id=\"auto-tag_nebraska\" data-tag=\"nebraska\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nebraska<\/a> to be demos for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/e-street-band\/\" id=\"auto-tag_e-street-band\" data-tag=\"e-street-band\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">E Street Band<\/a>, and at New York City\u2019s Power Station studio in 1982, he and the band laid down versions of most of its songs. The so-called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/electric-nebraska\/\" id=\"auto-tag_electric-nebraska\" data-tag=\"electric-nebraska\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Electric Nebraska<\/a> tracks have never been heard, even on bootleg \u2014 but Springsteen is about to change that with a new box set, Nebraska \u201982: Expanded Edition, due Oct. 17, a week before the Springsteen biopic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/deliver-me-from-nowhere\/\" id=\"auto-tag_deliver-me-from-nowhere\" data-tag=\"deliver-me-from-nowhere\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Deliver Me From Nowhere<\/a> hits theaters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe Electric Nebraska disc includes seven E Street Band takes on the album\u2019s material, plus a wildcard \u2014 a fierce, guitar-dominated electric version of \u201cBorn in the U.S.A.,\u201d a song originally recorded acoustically as part of the Nebraska sessions. That track, which features Springsteen playing with only drummer Max Weinberg and bassist Garry Tallent, is available for streaming now. \u201cWe threw out the keyboards and played basically as a three-piece,\u201d Springsteen said in a press release. \u201cIt was kinda like punk rockabilly. We were trying to bring \u2018Nebraska\u2019 into the electric world.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tOver four discs and a Blu-Ray, the set, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/vinyl.sonymusic.com\/products\/bruce-springsteen-nebraska-82-expanded-edition-lp-boxset?lf=04e4025129058933171290ec6ab0c199\" target=\"_blank\">available to preorder now<\/a>, also includes acoustic outtakes (among them\u201dChild Bride,\u201d which became \u201cWorking on the Highway\u201d), and audio and video of a brand-new solo live performance of all of Nebraska, recorded at Red Bank, New Jersey\u2019s Count Basie Theater. The set also includes a new remaster of Nebraska itself. Also among the outtakes are the never-bootlegged songs \u201cGun in Every Home,\u201d and \u201cOn the Prowl\u201d \u2014\u00a0Springsteen did play the latter song live at Jersey Shore club appearances circa \u201982.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn a press release, Springsteen said his live performance of the album reminded him of its power. \u201cI think in playing these songs again to be filmed, their weight impressed upon me,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve written a lot of other narrative records, but there\u2019s just something about that batch of songs on \u2018Nebraska\u2019 that holds some sort of magic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tEven the E Street Band themselves were anxious to hear their full-band takes on Nebraska. \u201cI\u2019m dying to hear the recordings from\u00a0the studio,\u201d keyboardist Roy Bittan<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/the-e-street-band-electric-nebraska-born-in-the-u-s-a-1235036081\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> told<\/a> our Rolling Stone Music Now podcast last year. \u201cIt\u2019s eluded us. Maybe, Bruce,\u00a0at some point, will get into that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI remember recording all of that [Nebraska] material and it was very much in the E Street Band style and very similar to what we do now when we play those songs, and it was great,\u201d Weinberg told the pod last year. \u201cJon Landau, during the writing, suggested that I listen to\u00a0John Wesley Harding, the Bob Dylan record. And he said, Bruce seems to be going more in this kind of direction. And there were some takes like that, with brushes, just a bare minimum rhythmic approach. And there were also rock versions of [some of] the\u00a0Nebraska\u00a0material.\u00a0\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tEarlier this year, Springsteen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/bruce-springsteen-electric-nebraska-exists-1235367684\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/bruce-springsteen-electric-nebraska-exists-1235367684\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> <\/a>Rolling Stone\u2018s Andy Greene in an interview that the Electric Nebraska sessions \u201cdidn\u2019t exist,\u201d but a month later, texted him with a correction: \u201cJust wanted to give you a heads up. I checked our vault and there IS an electric\u00a0Nebraska\u00a0record, though it does not have the full album of songs.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tOct. 24\u2019s Deliver Me From Nowhere, starring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/jeremy-allen-white\/\" id=\"auto-tag_jeremy-allen-white\" data-tag=\"jeremy-allen-white\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jeremy Allen White<\/a> as Springsteen and Jeremy Strong as his manager Jon Landau, is a cinematic version of the Nebraska story.  Springsteen \u201cwas drawing inspiration from all these places but he didn\u2019t really know what he was doing for a while with this record,\u201d White recently told the Associated Press. \u201cHe didn\u2019t know if it was going to be a record. As an actor, hopefully you\u2019re doing that sort of thing all the time.
