\n The nationwide campaign<\/a> arrives in the city on September 17, described as a “landmark moment for mental health awareness”.\n<\/p>\n

\n The baton’s journey\u00a0will officially be launched by\u00a0the\u00a0Lady Dannatt,\u00a0<\/a>the Lord-Lieutenant for Norfolk<\/a>\u00a0and former president of the\u00a0Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association,\u00a0during an\u00a0opening ceremony at the Norfolk Showground,\u00a0where the rural community has been invited by the RNAA alongside mental health charity\u00a0YANA\u00a0and the South Norfolk Farming Community Network.\n<\/p>\n

\n The baton will then be passed between more than 40\u00a0bearers as it travels through the city, stopping at key landmarks and community spaces including the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, Eaton Park,\u00a0Norwich Samaritans branch, Chapelfield Gardens,\u00a0Norwich Lanes and\u00a0Norwich Cathedral –\u00a0where it will coincide with the Conversations Around Suicide conference, also featuring Lady Dannatt.\n<\/p>\n

\n The\u00a0day\u00a0will culminate in a closing ceremony at Norwich City Football Club, where the baton will be carried for a lap of the Carrow Road pitch by a member of the first team squad in\u00a0a celebration also including baton bearers, community leaders and\u00a0volunteers.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n

\n “Every life lost to suicide is one too many,”\u00a0said Lady Dannatt.\n<\/p>\n

\n “The Baton of Hope is an extraordinary initiative giving voice to the silent struggles so many face. I\u2019m honoured to support this day of awareness and action in Norwich.”\n<\/p>\n

\n Norwich was selected as one of just 20 cities across the UK to host the event, which\u00a0is being led\u00a0locally by Norwich Samaritans, working in collaboration with local charities and businesses.\n<\/p>\n

\n Jane Brown, director of Norwich Samaritans, said: \u201cWe\u2019re honoured to host the Baton of Hope and help shine a light on such an important issue. Every suicide leaves families, friends, and communities shattered by the loss. We believe this will be a landmark moment for mental health awareness in Norwich.”\n<\/p>\n
