Morrissey is set to sell his stakes in his former band The Smiths as a statement appeared on his official website on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The statement appeared on Morrissey’s website on Wednesday, September 3, detailing his plans to sell all of his business interests in his former band to any interested party or investor.<\/p>\n

In a personal message appearing to be from the singer himself, he admitted to be “burnt out” by his connections to his former band mates Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke, and Mike Joyce and claims he has “had enough” of “malicious associations”.<\/p>\n

It comes just months after Morrissey performed in Manchester (on June 7) as part of his European and UK Tour which also saw him visit Dublin, Glasgow, Madrid among more.<\/p>\n

The statement on his website opens with: “Morrissey has no choice but to offer for sale all of his business interests in “The Smiths” to any interested party \/ investor.<\/p>\n

“This would include Morrissey’s full and exclusive rights to:<\/p>\n

“1. The name ‘The Smiths’, as created by Morrissey.<\/p>\n

“2. All Smiths artwork, as created by Morrissey.<\/p>\n

“3. All Smiths merchandising rights.<\/p>\n

“4. All Smiths songs lyrically \/ musically.<\/p>\n

“5. All synchronisation rights.<\/p>\n

“6. All Smiths recordings.<\/p>\n

“7. All contractual rights for Smiths publishing.”The statement continued with a message from Morrissey himself. It read: “Morrissey: “I am burnt out by any and all connections to Marr, Rourke, Joyce.<\/p>\n

“I have had enough of malicious associations. With my entire life I have paid my rightful dues to these songs and these images. I would now like to live disassociated from those who wish me nothing but ill-will and destruction, and this is the only resolution.<\/p>\n

“The songs are me – they are no one else – but they bring with them business communications that go to excessive lengths to create as much dread and spite year after year. I must now protect myself, especially my health.”<\/p>\n
