Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) stormed to his second stage win of this Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a on Thursday, taking stage 12 from the breakaway.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old Spaniard bested compatriot Javier Romo (Movistar) in a two-up sprint in Los Corrales de Buelna after the pair had left the rest of the break behind on the final climb. Brieuc Rolland (Groupama-FDJ) secured third on the day.<\/p>\n

Ayuso’s win marks UAE’s fifth so far in the race after his own stage 7 win, Jay Vine’s two stage wins, and a team time trial victory on stage 5.<\/p>\n

Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) maintained his overall Vuelta lead on Thursday, finishing together with the other top GC contenders a little over six minutes behind Ayuso.<\/p>\n

Marc Soler set up Ayuso for a decisive attack on the final climb<\/p>\n

How it happenedA half hour of attacks and counterattacks led to a massive breakaway of more than 50 riders getting clear, with Ayuso, Romo, and Rolland all in the selection alongside other big names like Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek). Visma-Lease a Bike took up pace-setting in the peloton, and the gap settled in at around three and a half minutes by the midway point of the stage.<\/p>\n
