If you live in Kenya and have been struggling with your internet lately, well, it seems like a solution is coming soon. Meta and Safaricom are backing\u00a0Daraja<\/a>, a $23 million subsea cable that will link Mombasa to Oman. Unlike older systems that collapse under pressure, this one packs 24 fiber pairs, more than double what most cables carry. It\u2019s expected to go live in 2026, promising faster, steadier internet that won\u2019t blink out every time SEACOM or EASSy hits a snag.<\/p>\n

Meta\u2019s role comes through Edge Network Services, its infrastructure arm. If that sounds familiar, it\u2019s because the company is also a major backer of 2Africa, the giant subsea system wrapping around the continent next year. Analysts say upgrades like these could add billions to Africa\u2019s GDP, making it more than smooth streaming.<\/p>\n

As East Africa is fast becoming a hotspot for subsea cable investments, and with Daraja joining the mix, Kenya could move from patchy connections to one of the most resilient internet hubs on the continent.<\/p>\n
