{"id":117229,"date":"2025-09-05T21:27:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-05T21:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/117229\/"},"modified":"2025-09-05T21:27:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T21:27:09","slug":"western-trust-condemns-racial-abuse-of-healthcare-staff-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/117229\/","title":{"rendered":"Western Trust condemns racial abuse of healthcare staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">International colleagues, he said, were integral to the trust&#8217;s delivery of services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sounds\/play\/live\/bbc_radio_foyle\" class=\"ssrcss-f6h2dj-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BBC Radio Foyle&#8217;s North West Today programme<\/a> on Friday, Mr Guckian said they had noticed a stark increase in racial abuse of staff in recent months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He said the trust felt the need to issue a statement following a &#8220;particularly unsavoury incident&#8221; in Fermanagh, which is being investigated by the police.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He did not give details of the incident. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;The health and social services in Northern Ireland &#8211; the Western Trust particularly &#8211; would be decimated if we didn&#8217;t have our international staff,&#8221; Mr Guckian said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He said they had attracted some of the best people in the world to work here.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;As an employer with one of the most diverse workforces west of the Bann, we do all we can to support our staff,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We have a really active ethnically diverse staff network, but we are still learning about the difficulties they go through daily.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"International colleagues, he said, were integral to the trust&#8217;s delivery of services.
