The two US Open men’s singles semifinals are expected to play out in two wildly different fashions.<\/p>\n
Top seed Jannik Sinner played better as the tournament extended into the second week. He is expected to run away with his match against No. 25 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime.<\/p>\n
The main draw on Friday is battle between No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz and No. 7 seed Novak Djokovic.<\/p>\n
Djokovic is one of the few players on the ATP Tour who can raise his level to that of Sinner or Alcaraz.<\/p>\n

Few players have been able to challenge, let alone beat, Sinner in his current form.<\/p>\n
The No. 1 seed and reigning US Open champion lost 10 games in his last six sets against a pair of seeded players. <\/p>\n
That doesn’t bode well for Auger-Aliassime, who is making his second-career Grand Slam semifinal appearance.<\/p>\n
The 25th-seeded Canadian lost his only other Grand Slam semifinal in straight sets to Daniil Medvedev, who then was the No. 2 seed, at the 2021 US Open.<\/p>\n
Sinner’s only true rival at the moment is Alcaraz, and if an upset happens in the night match, it will be viewed as one of the more shocking results in recent US Open history. <\/p>\n
The Alcaraz-Djokovic battle is expected to be far more entertaining. Djokovic leads the head-to-head series 5-3 and just beat No. 4 seed Taylor Fritz in the semifinals. <\/p>\n
If anyone knows how to manage a Grand Slam semifinal against a higher seed, it is Djokovic, who won four titles in New York. <\/p>\n
Alcaraz has played some spectacular tennis so far in New York. He hasn’t dropped a set and made things look easy against No. 20 seed Jiri Lehecka in the quarterfinals.<\/p>\n
However, Djokovic poses a far more difficult task and he will likely push the Spaniard into at least four sets, or even a fifth set. <\/p>\n
Alcaraz should still be favored to win because of his form, but it would be far less surprising to see Djokovic win than Auger-Aliassime.<\/p>\n
