Irish Olympian boxer Daina Moorehouse bowed out of the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool after she suffered a split decision defeat to Laura Fuertes Fernandez of Spain.<\/p>\n
In what was a tight and fiercely contested bout, Moorehouse was narrowly edged out on the judges scorecards, with a 3-2 split decision going against her.<\/p>\n
Fernandez, who has won medals at the World and European Games, was able to dig deep and find an extra level just when it mattered most as a strong final round saw her take the decision.<\/p>\n
Judges scored the bout 28:29, 29:28, 29:28, 28:29, 29:28.<\/p>\n
It was a similar story for Donegal southpaw Matthew McCole, who lost to Ronald Chavez Jnr of the Philippines on a split decision.<\/p>\n
In what was McCole’s first major senior tournament, a 3-2 split decision went against him.<\/p>\n
