Jelena Dokic<\/a> has opened up about her new relationship<\/a> and the concerns surrounding it.<\/p>\n

Speaking to \ufeffthe Something To Talk About podcast<\/a>, the 42-year-old<\/a> shared that privacy is an issue that she has discussed with her new partner, Yane Veselinov, who she introduced to the world in an Instagram post in July.<\/p>\n

“He’s not anonymous anymore. We talk about that a lot and I want to make sure that he’s OK, that he doesn’t feel like [his] privacy was invaded. I’ve been in the spotlight since the age of 12, so it’s very different for me,” she noted.<\/p>\n

She said that her new love came after a lot of work on her part. “I’ve had to do a lot of healing, a lot of soul-searching,” she said, “I didn’t really know what was next for me when it comes to my private life and being happy privately and maybe finding love one day.<\/p>\n

“It’s early, it’s new,” she admitted, “But we understand each other and he’s incredibly kind and generous. I always said, ‘I just want a really good person.’ I’m glad I’ve been able to find that.<\/p>\n

“The most important thing is that we’re happy.”<\/p>\n

Dokic first went public with her new relationship on July 14, sharing a photo on Instagram with the man later identified as Yane Veselinov.<\/p>\n

“You are my calm, safe, peaceful, and happy place. So glad I found you,” she wrote next to the photo which shows the pair smiling widely posing for a selfie.<\/p>\n

Soon after she opened up about the relationship to 9honey, telling us, “It’s hard sometimes being [in the] public eye and people want to know things, and I get that.<\/p>\n

“I’ve been alone for a long time… I think everyone’s journey is unique, everyone’s healing journey is unique, whether it comes to your private life or your professional life, and that’s what healing and taking care of yourself is.<\/p>\n

“You’ve got to find what works for you.”<\/p>\n

She also opened up about the breakdown of her relationship with her partner of 19 years, Tin Bikic, in 2022.<\/p>\n

The tennis star gained a loyal following for sharing her struggle to heal.\ufeff<\/p>\n

What worked for her, she says, was “being alone for a while”.<\/p>\n

“For some people, it works being alone for a while. For others, it doesn’t… the best thing I can say… in general [about] breakups and so on, try and take care of yourself and find what works for you, and sometimes that might be being alone and discovering who you are.<\/p>\n

“I think it’s not a one-size-fits-all when it comes to healing.”\ufeff<\/p>\n

Dokic made her name in tennis as a teen, eventually retiring in 2014 and since working in media in tennis commentary and coverage. Last month she won a Silver Logie for her Best Factual or Documentary Program for her documentary Unbreakable: The Jelena Dokic Story.\ufeff<\/p>\n
