{"id":12184,"date":"2025-07-21T05:28:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T05:28:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/12184\/"},"modified":"2025-07-21T05:28:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T05:28:10","slug":"oxfordshire-schools-and-kenyan-schools-collaborate-on-books","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/12184\/","title":{"rendered":"Oxfordshire schools and Kenyan schools collaborate on books"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The Nasio Trust, based in Abingdon, has published the books as part of its Global Storybook Project.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The project invites children to write and illustrate stories around shared themes like favourite heroes and animals.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Through this creative writing, it aims to foster a friendship between students from different backgrounds, whilst increasing access to reading resources in rural Kenya through the establishment of a public library.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The storybook scheme has connected children from five Oxfordshire schools and several schools in rural Kenya by publishing their themed stories in an anthology.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The money raised from the sale of the books will go towards building the first community library in western Kenya.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The five Oxfordshire schools involved in the project were Windmill Primary School in Headington, Abingdon Prep School, St Frideswide&#8217;s Primary School in Cowley, Sunningwell School, and Wolvercote Primary School.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The project was also supported by Oxfordshire author Sylvia Vetta and illustrator Korky Paul.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Sylvia Vetta said: &#8220;The project is more than just a collection of stories, it\u2019s a celebration of imagination and a testament to the power of young voices.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Books can be purchased for \u00a310 by emailing info@thenasiotrust.org\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The student-authors also spoke at the Oxford Indie Book Fair on July 13 at Magdalen College School.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Nasio Trust, based in Abingdon, has published the books as part of its Global Storybook Project.
