Airplane food has a long-standing reputation for being disappointing.<\/p>\n

But one experimental passenger decided enough was enough – and took matters into her own hands.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Craving a moreish meal at 30,000 feet, she concocted a homemade Italian feast right from her seat.<\/p>\n

While Katie’s effort earned her millions of views online, her unconventional plane fare also triggered a wave of disgust.<\/p>\n

Known as\u00a0@buonapastaclub on TikTok<\/a>, the self-confessed pasta lover announced in a now-viral video<\/a>: ‘Point of view: You hate airplane food, so you make it yourself.’\u00a0<\/p>\n

The clip continues to show her mixing flour, eggs and potatoes by hand in a shallow bowl she had also brought onto the plane.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Katie, from San Diego in the US, is seen expertly kneading, rolling, cutting and shaping the dough into delicate pieces of gnocchi – even using a wooden ‘ridger’ to craft grooves into the pasta.<\/p>\n

While some applauded the creativity, critics didn’t hold back in sharing their disapproval in the comments.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One person wrote: ‘I don’t know how people don\u2019t realize the airplane is the most unhygienic place.’\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another quipped, ‘I mean, you could also pack a sandwich,’ while a third said, ‘I\u2019d lose my mind sitting next to this person.’<\/p>\n

A fourth quizzed: ‘My question is how did you get a Ziploc bag of flour through security..’<\/p>\n

Another scolded: ‘Not a great idea. I\u2019m sorry, but if coeliacs sit in the rows around you, they will not be happy with the flour flying around\u2026<\/p>\n

‘This is no joke, it is a real threat for them\u2026\u00a0please consider this when you think about cooking in a public space.’\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Flight attendants have long warned that tray tables, seat pockets, and armrests are among the dirtiest surfaces on a plane <\/a>– some testing positive for everything from fecal bacteria to fungal spores.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Regardless, Katie’s gnocchi isn’t the only recent example of DIY dining on airplanes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In December 2023, a plane passenger sparked outrage after revealing how he cooked shrimp and mashed potato in the sink of an airplane bathroom<\/a> – after taking two six-volt batteries onto the craft in order to power his bizarre experiment.<\/p>\n

While some applauded the creativity, critics didn’t hold back in sharing their disapproval in the comments<\/p>\n

The US-based content creator, who goes by the username Barfly, shocked TikTok viewers clips of his makeshift meal prep after using two six-volt batteries on board a Delta aircraft to create the meal in the communal restroom.<\/p>\n

He then lumped all the ingredients into a sick bag before returning to his seat and eating with his hands.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Social media users seemed less than convinced as one wrote: ‘Imagine being the next person to use the bathroom.’<\/p>\n

Another added: ‘This is one of the most insane videos I’ve seen on this app.’<\/p>\n
