{"id":12329,"date":"2025-07-21T06:52:08","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T06:52:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/12329\/"},"modified":"2025-07-21T06:52:08","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T06:52:08","slug":"mclaren-f1-boss-asks-for-fia-meeting-amid-oscar-piastri-penalty-controversy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/12329\/","title":{"rendered":"McLaren F1 boss asks for FIA meeting amid Oscar Piastri penalty controversy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpfans.com\/en\/f1-teams\/mclaren\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">McLaren<\/a> F1 team principal Andrea Stella has called for a meeting with the FIA after Oscar Piastri\u2019s comments over team radio caused controversy at the British Grand Prix.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\nThe Australian driver was slammed with a <a title=\"10-second time penalty\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gpfans.com\/en\/f1-news\/1055161\/ia-penalty-verdict-announced-after-max-verstappen-oscar-piastri-british-grand-prix-silverstone\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">10-second time penalty<\/a> at Silverstone for braking erratically under safety car conditions; but when he radioed his race engineer on the cool down lap, frustration clearly simmered under the surface.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\nHowever, Piastri felt he was prevented from articulating his emotions due to the FIA\u2019s regulations, that prohibit drivers from saying anything that could result in \u2018moral\u2019 harm to the FIA and its employees. &#13;<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;If I say anything now, I&#8217;ll be banned for the rest of the year,&#8221; the Australian referenced. &#13;<\/p>\n<p>\nIn subsequent interviews, Piastri refused to elaborate on his view of the penalty where he said: &#8220;I don&#8217;t want to say too much, otherwise I&#8217;ll get into trouble.&#8221;&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\nSpeaking to <a title=\"Auto Motor und Sport\" href=\"https:\/\/www.auto-motor-und-sport.de\/formel-1\/kein-kommentar-fia-strafen-maulkorb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Auto Motor und Sport<\/a>, Piastri\u2019s boss, Andrea Stella, has asked for dialogue with the FIA to allow drivers to be able to express themselves. &#13;<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;In such a heated situation, we always advise our drivers to review the footage first and only then react,&#8221; he said. &#13;<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;But if you&#8217;re no longer allowed to make honest statements because you could get into trouble, that&#8217;s a different issue. We need to re-examine that. We want to do that together with the FIA.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;We don&#8217;t want to start a conflict, and there&#8217;s no conflict of interest here. All parties have the same interest. We always cooperate with the FIA and the stewards.&#8221;&#13;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/fafe88b1eae6e3ec7aeada57053e4007b2ce5a5e.jpg\"\/>Oscar Piastri was penalised at Silverstone<br \/>\nAre FIA rules silencing F1 drivers?<\/p>\n<p>\nIn Montreal and Austria, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpfans.com\/en\/f1-drivers\/max-verstappen\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Max Verstappen<\/a> also refused to voice his opinion on controversial topics and hit out at the FIA\u2019s penalty system.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;Everything can be interpreted as criticism and you can get punished for it. It\u2019s clearly stated in the regulations.
