saw thousands of cyclists take part to raise awareness and funds for those living with stage four cancer<\/a>, a cause close to the couple after Hoy revealed last year he had been given a prognosis of between two and four years to live.<\/p>\nStill in her cycling gear after crossing the line, Sarra fought back tears as she tried to explain what the event meant to her.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just been a date in the calendar for so long,” she said.<\/p>\n
“To finally get here, doing it and thinking about Chris\u2026 everyone is riding for somebody. It\u2019s just brilliant.<\/p>\n
“I\u2019m really proud to be part of it, just a tiny cog in this massive machine.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hoy himself described the day as \u201cuplifting\u201d, adding: \u201cThe support has been astonishing.<\/p>\n
“We\u2019re raising money for causes that really matter, and it\u2019s been wonderful to see so many people come together.\u201d<\/p>\n
The six-time Olympic champion, now 48, is undergoing \u201cconstant treatment\u201d for prostate cancer but says his condition is \u201cstable\u201d and no longer the first thing on his mind each morning.<\/p>\n
Chris himself added: \u201cWonderful, such an uplifting day and I think everybody is enjoying themselves.<\/p>\n
“We\u2019re showing what we can do and we\u2019re raising money for very important causes and charities, and yeah\u2026<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you to everybody who\u2019s come down and made this a success, because the support has been genuinely astonishing.\u201d<\/p>\n
They raised more than \u00a32m during the event.<\/p>\n
Chris and Sarra, who married in 2010, have two children, Callum, 10, and Chloe, seven.<\/p>\n
Sarra also lives with multiple sclerosis but has kept her diagnosis private from their children.<\/p>\n
Despite the challenges facing the family, Hoy says they are determined to focus on everyday life.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt feels like our family routine is as it was before, which I think is remarkable,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
