Michael Imperioli, Ella Anderson, King Princess, Mustafa Shakir and Hudson Hensley round out the cast. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBased on a true story, Song Sung Blue centers on a pair of struggling musicians whose luck changes when they decide to form a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/neil-diamond\/\" id=\"auto-tag_neil-diamond_1\" data-tag=\"neil-diamond\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Neil Diamond<\/a> tribute band. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019m not a songwriter,\u201d Jackman says candidly in the trailer. \u201cI\u2019m not a sex symbol. I just want to entertain people.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLater, Hudson tells him, \u201cYou don\u2019t want to be a Neil Diamond impersonator. You want to be a Neil Diamond interpreter.\u201d This leads Jackman to enthusiastically respond, \u201cI was looking for the right way to say it, and you just came right out and said it.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBrewer (Dolemite Is My Name) helmed Song Sung Blue from his own script that is based on a 2008 documentary of the same name. He produces the new feature alongside John Davis and John Fox. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDiamond released his single \u201cSong Sung Blue\u201d in 1972, and it hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Diamond is known for such other notable hits as \u201cCracklin\u2019 Rosie,\u201d \u201cLongfellow Serenade\u201d and \u201cSweet Caroline.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tJackman starred alongside Ryan Reynolds in last year\u2019s box office smash Deadpool &amp; Wolverine, and his forthcoming features include Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie and The Death of Robin Hood.
