Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from Spain’s upcoming Davis Cup qualifier against Denmark, just days after winning the US Open.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old clinched his sixth Grand Slam title<\/a> in Flushing Meadows on Sunday by beating fierce rival Jannick Sinner<\/a> in four sets, winning 6-2 3-6 6-1 6-4.<\/p>\n

Victory for Alcaraz<\/a> in New York was significant, as it sealed his return to number one in the ATP world rankings.<\/p>\n

But the Spaniard was not due to have long to savour the achievement.<\/p>\n

He had been expected to represent his country this weekend, with Spain taking on Denmark in the second round of Davis Cup qualifying in Marbella.<\/p>\n

But Alcaraz will now play no part in the tie, having opted against international duty after enduring a hectic schedule of late.<\/p>\n

Prior to his US Open<\/a> victory, the tennis star claimed the Cincinnati Open with victory over Alexander Zverev in the final.<\/p>\n

He also contested the US Open\u2019s revamped mixed doubles event alongside Britain’s Emma Raducanu the day after his Cincinnati final.<\/p>\n

Alcaraz then went on to win seven matches in a row on his way to singles glory, dropping just one set all tournament.<\/p>\n

And the gruelling schedule now looks to have taken its toll, as the Spanish star confirmed he would no longer represent his country coming weekend in the Davis Cup.<\/p>\n

Alcaraz told\u00a0Cadena SER<\/a>: \u201cI feel very bad, but I’m on a very demanding tour, both mentally and physically, with a lot of matches, and I don’t have time to get home and prepare in the best way possible for the Davis Cup.<\/p>\n

“I need rest to face the rest of the season and, above all, to be mentally calm to assimilate everything I’ve achieved on this tour.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spain will be without their second-ranked player this weekend too, with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina also withdrawing from the tie.<\/p>\n

The duo have been replaced by Jaume Munar, Roberto Carballes Baena, and Pablo Carreno Busta.<\/p>\n

Former world No.3 David Ferrer is captain of Spain’s Davis Cup team, a role he has held since December 2022.<\/p>\n

His side will have their work cut out against Denmark, with top 10 star Holger Rune headlining their lineup, which also includes Elmer Moeller,\u00a0August Holmgren,\u00a0Christian Sigsgaard\u00a0and\u00a0Johannes Ingildsen.<\/p>\n

And while Alcaraz will be absent this weekend, it shouldn’t be long before he gets another chance to compete in a team tournament. <\/p>\n

He is still signed up to compete in the Laver Cup in San Francisco at the end of next week – a Ryder Cup-style team competition co-created by\u00a0Roger Federer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After this, Alcaraz is due to make his tournament debut at the Japan Open in Tokyo, before the Shanghai Masters 1000 event.<\/p>\n

And the Murcia native revealed his next target is already the Australian Open<\/a> in January, where he can complete the career Grand Slam with a maiden victory in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

In the same interview, Alcaraz added: \u201cAustralia is always the main goal before starting the year.<\/p>\n
