More than a dozen jam products have been recalled<\/a> over an undeclared ingredient that may pose health risk to some consumers. Scottish<\/a> brand Sarah Gray\u2019s recalled 14 products that contain sulphites not mentioned on the label. Sulphites are a group of preservatives used in the production of some foods and drinks.<\/p>\n

They can trigger allergy<\/a>-like symptoms such as wheezing, tight chest and cough. When they interact with stomach acid, sulphur dioxide can cause the airway to become irritated and constricted. Less than 2% of people are thought to be allergic to sulphites, according to Allergy UK, but this rises to between five and 13% among people with asthma<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The recall issued by Fife-based Sarah Gray\u2019s affected 14 jam products containing Prosecco or champagne, sold online and in a number of independent shops.<\/p>\n

A notice issued by the Food Standards Agency said: \u201cThese products contain undeclared sulphites making it a possible health risk for anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide or sulphites.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you have bought the above products and have a sensitivity to sulphur dioxide or sulphites do not eat them.<\/p>\n
