Twenty flood <\/a>alerts are in place as more rain<\/a> and thunderstorms<\/a> are forecast for much of the country today.<\/p>\n The Environment Agency <\/a>which means floods \u2018are possible\u2019 \u2013 have been issued for parts of Sussex<\/a>, the midlands, Nottinghamshire<\/a>, Derbyshire<\/a> and Yorkshire<\/a>, among other areas. <\/p>\n The Met Office<\/a>, meanwhile, has issued yellow thunderstorm warnings for large parts of England and Scotland<\/a> and a yellow rain weather<\/a> warning for the eastern half of Northern Ireland<\/a> until 9pm tonight.<\/p>\n Yellow thunderstorm and rain warnings suggest flash flooding could occur, potentially causing hazardous driving conditions and damage to homes. <\/p>\n Wales, south west England, and western areas of Northern Ireland are some of the few areas not under the warning today after they experienced the worst of the weather yesterday. <\/p>\n \t\t\t\tSign up for all of the latest stories\t\t\t<\/p>\n Start your day informed with Metro’s News Updates<\/a> newsletter or get Breaking News<\/a> alerts the moment it happens. <\/p>\n The Met office has forecast a \u2018cloudy, damp start\u2019 this morning, \u2018particularly for the southeast and across Northern Ireland, where heavy rain is expected.<\/p>\n It will be \u2018brighter elsewhere,\u2019 though showers are soon to return and are set to be heavy and thundery\u2019. There is also a risk of hail this afternoon.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\tUK areas where flood alerts are in place\t\t\t<\/p>\n Tonight, further outbreaks of rain are expected across central and northern areas, heaviest and most persistent in the northwest.<\/p>\n It will be drier in the south and east with a few isolated showers, the forecaster added.<\/p>\n Rain is predicted across western Scotland, easing through the day, while elsewhere there should be sunny spells and scattered, possibly thundery showers, mainly in the east. <\/p>\n The outlook for Wednesday to Friday is mainly sunny spells and scattered showers as low pressure continues to bring unsettled conditions. But by Thursday there should be less showers and more sunshine, with temperatures at a seasonal average.<\/p>\n Today\u2019s wet weather comes as Southern Water puts a house pipe ban in place <\/a>to address \u2018critically low\u2019 water levels.<\/p>\n The ban has been introduced across\u00a0Hampshire<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Isle of Wight<\/a>, and came into effect at 9am today.<\/p>\n \t\t \t\t Residents won\u2019t be able to use a hosepipe to do activities like\u00a0watering the garden<\/a>, washing their car, or filling a paddling pool.<\/p>\n Thames Water\u00a0is set to bring in a ban for households in Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, most of Wiltshire and parts of Berkshire tomorrow, July 22.<\/p>\n The company is not bringing in a ban for the whole of its coverage area, just for the following postcodes: OX, GL, SN, RG4, RG8 and RG9.<\/p>\n Yorkshire Water started a ban on July 11\u00a0for the whole of Yorkshire. while South East Water put in restrictions from Friday, July 18 for homes in Kent and Sussex.<\/p>\n Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@metro.co.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n For more stories like this, check our news page<\/a>.<\/p>\n Arrow Arrow![\"weather](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/SEI_259568912-0b80.jpg\")
