The topics flagged in the guidance documents are ones on which Apple\u2019s AI is likely to provide more carefully coached answers to users. There is no way to know how the model will respond specifically or what stance it will take on topics deemed sensitive, given the nature of the technology.<\/p>\n
Data annotators receive \u201cinstructions and an appendix of examples,\u201d said one of the annotators, who was granted anonymity because they signed a non-disclosure agreement.\u00a0 \u201cAnd in those examples, things started to look different\u201d in the new March document, they said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The previous set of guidelines categorized \u201cintolerance\u201d as a \u201charmful\u201d behavior data annotators have to signal. The document defined it as \u201cdemonstrating intolerance towards individuals or groups differing from oneself. It manifests in various forms, including discrimination, prejudice, and bigotry, and is characterized by a reluctance to embrace diversity and equality.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

This wording disappeared in the March version of the guidelines, as did a mention of \u201csystemic racism.\u201d While the March document still categorizes \u201cdiscrimination\u201d as \u201charmful,\u201d \u201cDiversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)\u201d is now marked as a \u201ccontroversial\u201d topic.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Both policy documents viewed by POLITICO were sent to employees at a company called Transperfect, a language service company headquartered in New York with a presence in more than 140 cities worldwide. \u00a0<\/p>\n
