Txiki Begiristain will return to Manchester City<\/a> for the first time since leaving as director football at this weekend\u2019s derby.<\/p>\n

The former Spain international spent 13 years overseeing unprecedented success at the Etihad Stadium and was a crucial component to the appointment of Pep Guardiola<\/a>, as well as a raft of successful signings.<\/p>\n

Begiristain is a guest of the club for Sunday\u2019s clash with Manchester United<\/a> and will have an open-ended invite to attend matches.<\/p>\n

Ex-Newcastle United midfielder Hugo Viana took over from Begiristain in the summer as City spent big on six new faces \u2013 including goalkeepers Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford.<\/p>\n

\u2018Hugo has been a top selection,\u2019 Begiristain said. \u2018I would say that he is quite close to what I feel I am. He is so calm but he is also very decisive.<\/p>\n

\u2018In the winter transfer window<\/a> he couldn\u2019t be here, he was at Sporting but I\u2019ve seen it in the last few months \u2013 the criteria he has and the way he sees football. The decisions on players \u2013 I think we are in top hands.\u2019<\/p>\n

The 61-year-old has moved back to San Sebastien and plans to split time between watching Real Sociedad, Barcelona and City.<\/p>\n

\u2018Sociedad is where I grew up, second one is Barcelona of course and then it\u2019s going to be City,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019ll see how I feel watching. I\u2019m going to choose the right ones and just enjoy watching football. I\u2019ve been watching the best football in the world \u2013 both at Barcelona and Manchester City so I\u2019ll choose only the good games.<\/p>\n

\u2018We love Manchester. People talk badly about the city before you go but once you come it\u2019s such a pleasure. The city centre is quite small \u2013 everything is there.<\/p>\n

\u2018I lived in Barcelona and London but people in Manchester what you see is what you are and that\u2019s what I like.\u2019<\/p>\n
