HBO’s The Conjuring TV series has received an exciting update after the box office success of the horror saga’s latest film.<\/p>\n

The Conjuring: Last Rites, the fourth main and ninth overall film in the series, had the franchise’s biggest opening weekend<\/a> when it debuted last week. It has currently made over $200 million from a $55 million budget.<\/p>\n

Following the film’s strong start in cinemas, Variety<\/a> has reported that the upcoming small-screen spin-off has landed a showrunner.<\/p>\n

Little Fires Everywhere and Jessica Jones’ Nancy Won has come aboard as showrunner, executive producer and writer, while Peter Cameron and Cameron Squires will be part of the writing team.<\/p>\n

Peter Safran will serve as executive producer, with James Wan’ company Atomic Monster also involved. <\/p>\n

The TV series was first announced back in 2023<\/a>, although HBO hadn’t released new details until this week. With the creative team now coming together, the upcoming show could be the next step for the franchise. <\/p>\n

For now, horror fans can watch The Conjuring’s latest film in cinemas. Based on the Smurl haunting<\/a>, The Conjuring: Last Rites sees Ed and Lorraine Warren helping a family who is experiencing paranormal activity in their home in West Pittston, Pennsylvania. <\/p>\n

The film is set to be the final entry<\/a> starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as the Warrens. <\/p>\n

While fans have been praising the latest instalment of the series, we at Digital Spy weren’t as enamoured with it.<\/p>\n

“Back on haunted house territory, the final outing proves to be a largely scare-free and tired recreation of the previous movies,” our review reads<\/a>, which argues the enemies are more generic and less memorable this time around. <\/p>\n

The Conjuring TV show will come to HBO Max in the US. The Conjuring: Last Rites is out in cinemas now.<\/p>\n
