Komatsu<\/a> spoke positively about the qualities that the 20-year-old has displayed.<\/p>\n\u201cI think the speed, there\u2019s absolutely no question,\u201d the Team Principal said. \u201cYou see it, there\u2019s no doubt the talent is there.<\/p>\n
\u201cThen for us, it\u2019s really a matter of harnessing that talent and then delivering it consistently, every session, every race weekend, which is what we haven\u2019t done. Again, we\u2019re working with Ollie very, very closely, providing short-term objectives, getting feedback, work ethic, etc.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut he\u2019s a great kid \u2013 he\u2019s got such a great personality, a positive personality that motivates everyone, and then he\u2019s very, very open-minded as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe takes constructive feedback \u2013 even the criticism \u2013 very, very well, so we have a very good working relationship and it\u2019s our target this year, [in the] races remaining, just to really showcase his talent consistently. That consistency is the key.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pushed on how they will go about doing this, Komatsu responded: \u201cWhat I just mentioned about the short-term objectives, that\u2019s very important. And then just simplify your life \u2013 not life as in private life, just everything to focus on what matters.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou cannot waste a session, you cannot waste a lap, and we have to be driving everyone \u2013 we have to be demanding more from each other. So even though he\u2019s a rookie [and] he\u2019s 20 years old, he\u2019s a Formula 1 driver, so he\u2019s got to be driving the team as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m pushing the drivers but I\u2019m also pushing the engineers and everyone as well, but he can do more on that side, and he knows and he\u2019s capable of doing it.
