invasion | News UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"vjs-no-js\">To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tbrowser that<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/videojs.com\/html5-video-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">supports HTML5<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tvideo<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As more Londoners are taking to cycle lanes in the daily battle to get to work during Tube strikes, some areas are seeing half of <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/09\/10\/strikelists-use-cruel-trick-bagsy-lime-bikes-scramble-get-work-24119829\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cyclists flouting traffic laws. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the capital it is all too common to see <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/09\/09\/strikelists-taken-london-tube-network-ground-a-halt-24115416\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cyclists ignore red lights<\/a> at crossings, with pedestrians often having to jump out of the way. <\/p>\n<p>But the full scale of the problem in <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/london\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">London<\/a> has now been revealed, with some busy junctions seeing half of riders ignore the basic principle of red meaning stop, and green meaning go.<\/p>\n<p>On <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/oxfordshire\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oxford<\/a> Street, 50% of cyclists were found to be running through crossroads without stopping, a study from NextBase found. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile the intersection between Shaftesbury Avenue and Charing Cross Road saw more than 200 cyclist offences in just 40 minutes. <\/p>\n<p>Of the total 25,000 riders recorded during peak travel times last month, with 26% of e-bike users rode through red lights. <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\tWhich are the worst junctions and streets for cyclists running red lights in London?\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Oxford Circus\u00a0\u2013 50%<br \/>\nHolloway Road &amp; Pancras Rd \u2013 35%<br \/>\nSeven Sisters Rd &amp; Blackstock Rd \u2013 34%\u00a0<br \/>\nKingsland Road &amp; Balls Pond Road \u2013 33%\u00a0<br \/>\nBrick Lane &amp; Bethnal Green Road \u2013 28%<br \/>\nElephant and Castle \u2013 26%\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Another 18% of pedal of cyclists were found doing the same. <\/p>\n<p>Food delivery drivers were the worst contenders, with 24% ignoring red lights, 10% riding on pavements and 6% going against the flow of traffic. <\/p>\n<p>But don\u2019t get the burning torches out for cyclists just yet, as some pedestrians and car drivers were also seen flouting traffic rules. <\/p>\n<p>At one junction in London \u2013 New Oxford St &amp; With the Underground shut down, roads became the only option, and chaos quickly followed.The strike, part of a long-running dispute over pay, pensions and working conditions, is just the latest in a string of walkouts paralysing the city. In 2023 alone, the Tube and rail network saw 25 days of strike action, costing the UK economy billions and leaving small businesses and commuters footing the bill.
