{"id":129876,"date":"2025-09-11T12:25:11","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T12:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/129876\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T12:25:11","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T12:25:11","slug":"north-west-anglia-nhs-hospitals-cancelled-operations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/129876\/","title":{"rendered":"North West Anglia NHS Hospitals cancelled operations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Hinchingbrooke Hospital, in Huntingdon, Peterborough City Hospital, and Stamford and Rutland Hospital, has cancelled 333 elective operations for &#8220;non-clinical reasons&#8221; from January to June, 2025.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Of those 333 operations at the hospitals, 192 patients\u00a0were not seen within 28 days of their cancelled appointments, which is 57 per cent of people.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Out of 134 acute NHS trusts across the country, North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust ranked 105th, placing it in category four &#8211; the worst performing category.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   alt=\"Hinchingbrooke Hospital.\" style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>Hinchingbrooke Hospital. (Image: NWAFT) From January to March 2024, 175 appointments were cancelled.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  This year, between January and March, 171 were cancelled.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Hannah Coffey, chief executive at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust said that it &#8220;welcome the transparency&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She said: &#8220;While we are extremely disappointed to have seen a decline in our\u00a0<br \/>rating during the 1 April to 30 June period, we know a major factor in the downward\u00a0<br \/>trend is primarily as a result of not being in financial balance.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Trust will be &#8220;under closer scrutiny for performance and will benefit from additional support to\u00a0accelerate improvement work.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;We are committed to maintaining good financial discipline to provide the best care\u00a0<br \/>for the best value across our hospitals.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;I am incredibly grateful for the determination and dedication our staff continue to\u00a0<br \/>show in support of our improvement programme&#8221;, she said.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   alt=\"Peterborough City Hospital.\" style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>Peterborough City Hospital. (Image: Davecrosby uk\/Creative Commons) In quite a stark contrast, the best performing NHS Trust in Cambridgeshire was the Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which ranked fifth as one of the best performing trusts in the country.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Eilish Midlane is Chief Executive at Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: &#8220;We\u2019re proud to be recognised as one of the top-performing NHS trusts in the latest government league tables.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;These results reflect the hard work of our teams, who provide excellent and compassionate care to our patients every day.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  From July 2023 to June 2025, the Royal Papworth Trust has cancelled 319 operations.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  By comparison, this is less than the number of operations cancelled by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which operates Addenbrooke&#8217;s and The Rosie, in the space of three months.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  From January to March 2025, the Cambridge University Hospitals Trust cancelled 326 operations.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Of these cancellations, 89 patients were not treated within 28 days.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It ranked 70th out of 134 trusts.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   alt=\"Addenbrooke's Hospital is ran by the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.\" style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>Addenbrooke&#8217;s Hospital is ran by the Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. (Image: CUH) A spokesperson for Cambridge University Hospitals said: &#8220;We welcome the clarity, rigour and transparency of the National Oversight Framework.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;We are determined to bring down waiting times for care and become one of the highest performing Trusts in the country.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust, which provides care to children, young people and families in the county, ranked fourth out of 61 non-acute trusts.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It also provides dental health, physiotherapy and sexual health services\u00a0across the region too.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ambulance trusts are included in the NHS League Tables too.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust ranked as 10th &#8211; the worst in the country.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   alt=\"Neill Moloney, the Chief Executive of the East of England Ambulance Service.\" style=\"width: 100%;\"\/>Neill Moloney, the Chief Executive of the East of England Ambulance Service. (Image: East of England Ambulance Service) Neill Moloney, the Chief Executive of the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, said that the ranking reflects the &#8220;ongoing challenges&#8221; the Trust faces, namely, tackling Category 2 response times and &#8220;cultural issues&#8221;.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  However, he said that the ranking reflects the &#8220;huge desire and ambition&#8221; to improve.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Rankings on the League Table are based on a number of factors, including reducing waiting times for treatments, times in A&amp;E departments, and improving ambulance wait times.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Have you got a story you want to share with us?
