{"id":130055,"date":"2025-09-11T14:03:04","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T14:03:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/130055\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T14:03:04","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T14:03:04","slug":"danny-wilson-exits-harlequins-15-days-before-season-starts-for-test-role","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/130055\/","title":{"rendered":"Danny Wilson exits Harlequins 15 days before season starts for Test role"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Danny Wilson will leave <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/harlequins\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Harlequins<\/a> after Friday night\u2019s PREM Rugby Cup match away to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/newcastle\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Newcastle<\/a> Red <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/bulls\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bulls<\/a> as he takes up the role of assistant coach to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/wales\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wales<\/a> boss Steve Tandy. <\/p>\n<p>Wilson joined Harlequins as a lineout and contact coach in January 2023 and was appointed head coach ahead of the 2023-24 season, but was seconded to Wales for the two Tests against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/japan\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Japan<\/a> this summer. <\/p>\n<p>The former Cardiff <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/blues\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Blues<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/glasgow\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Glasgow<\/a> Warriors boss will now return to take on responsibility for lineout and contact areas on a permanent, full-time basis, starting with the visit of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/argentina\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Argentina<\/a> to Cardiff in November. <\/p>\n<p>Wilson has previously worked with Tandy as part of Scotland\u2019s backroom team during the 2019\/20 international season. <\/p>\n<p>Tandy said: \u201cI\u2019m delighted to welcome Danny to the team on a permanent basis. I\u2019ve worked with him before when we were both with Scotland, and also during his time at Glasgow Warriors. He is an outstanding coach. <br \/>\u201cThis is a really exciting time, and I\u2019m grateful to Danny for accepting the challenge to share in this experience. We can\u2019t wait to get started together preparing for the autumn.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Wilson said that it wasn\u2019t an easy decision to leave the Twickenham Stoop, but it\u2019s a huge honour to have been asked to join Tandy\u2019s coaching staff. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has been a really tough decision for me to make as I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Quins, but the chance to join Wales and return to international rugby was simply too good an opportunity to turn down. <br \/>\u201cHaving the opportunity to experience international rugby again for the interim period with Wales this summer in Japan was a huge honour. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m delighted to be able to return on a permanent basis and to work again with Steve and this exciting group of young players,\u201d said Wilson. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDanny is a great addition to our coaching team and brings a skill set that is very complementary to Steve\u2019s.
