{"id":130282,"date":"2025-09-11T16:17:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T16:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/130282\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T16:17:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T16:17:09","slug":"bradley-wiggins-olympic-race-bike-has-just-sold-on-ebay-for-515-and-its-going-to-a-good-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/130282\/","title":{"rendered":"Bradley Wiggins\u2019 Olympic race bike has just sold on eBay for \u00a3515 \u2013 and it\u2019s going to a good home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cycling memorabilia hunters will be devastated to hear they&#8217;ve missed a roaring bargain, with Bradley Wiggins\u2019 2000 Sydney Olympics bike, raced at the Madison event, selling for only \u00a3515 on eBay.<\/p>\n<p>However, it will be of some comfort to hear it went to someone with a direct connection to the bike.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebay.co.uk\/itm\/146794029073\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">The bike in question<\/a> is a Terry Dolan track machine in size 62cm to suit the lofty 6ft 3in Wiggins.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1107\" height=\"738\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/s-l1600.jpg\" alt=\"Bradley Wiggins' 2000 track bike\" class=\"wp-image-938732\"\/>The bike was custom built for Wiggins. eBay<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to BikeRadar, the seller said the bike was originally passed down through a family in Torquay, with the legend being that it had once been raced by a young Wiggins.<\/p>\n<p>Dolan frames were a common sight beneath British Cycling riders in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Although better known for his time aboard Pinarello bikes at Team Sky, Wiggins \u2013 and his contemporary, Mark Cavendish \u2013 was still riding Dolan bikes at least <a href=\"https:\/\/autobus.cyclingnews.com\/tech.php?id=\/photos\/2007\/tech\/probikes\/wiggins_cavendish_track\/both_dl_front\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">as late as 2007 at Six Day events<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This bike is likely a much earlier model, however \u2013 but exactly how old?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"2354\" height=\"1569\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-1067234.jpg\" alt=\"21 Sep 2000: Aitken and McGrory of Australia win Gold in the Mens Madison Final at the Cycling Velodrome during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Shaun Botterill\/ALLSPORT\/Getty<\/p>\n<p>We spoke to Stephen Dolan \u2013 CEO of Dolan Bikes and son of the eponymous Terry \u2013 who confirmed the bike was \u201cBrad\u2019s spare bike from the Sydney Olympics in 2000\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe supplied custom-built aluminium frames to both Brad and Rob Hayles to ride in the Madison event at the Olympics, where they finished 4th,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"949\" height=\"632\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-1067234---cropped.jpg\" alt=\"21 Sep 2000: Aitken and McGrory of Australia win Gold in the Mens Madison Final at the Cycling Velodrome during the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Shaun Botterill\/ALLSPORT\/Getty<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, a search of the Getty Images library unearthed a photo of Wiggins riding the bike at the gold-medal event. The race \u2013 the first time the Madison was contested at the Olympics \u2013 was won by Australia\u2019s Scott McGrory and Brett Aitken.<\/p>\n<p>The frame is typical of the time, constructed using chunky 7003 Dedacciai alloy tubing. It\u2019s paired with an Alpina fork and Campagnolo headset.
