{"id":131414,"date":"2025-09-12T04:20:08","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T04:20:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/131414\/"},"modified":"2025-09-12T04:20:08","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T04:20:08","slug":"jannik-sinner-said-to-have-been-injured-during-the-us-open-final-that-was-my-suspicion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/131414\/","title":{"rendered":"Jannik Sinner said to have been injured during the US Open final, &#8216;that was my suspicion&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Jannik Sinner couldn\u2019t find his best tennis in the 2025 US Open final.<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/marion-bartoli-noticed-what-carlos-alcaraz-did-when-jannik-sinner-returned-to-the-court-as-wimbledon-champion\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sinner beat Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final<\/a> earlier in the summer, many were expecting a repeat result at Flushing Meadows.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t to be, however, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/rod-laver-has-a-question-to-ask-as-carlos-alcaraz-wins-the-us-open-title-and-billie-jean-king-also-reacts\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alcaraz got his revenge, defeating Sinner<\/a> in four sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, to secure his sixth Grand Slam.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"710\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-2234248910-1024x710.jpg\" alt=\"Carlos Alcaraz holds the trophy after winning the 2025 US Open\" class=\"wp-image-128099\" \/>Photo by Clive Brunskill\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Something wasn\u2019t clicking for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sinner<\/a> on Arthur Ashe Stadium in the final, as he looked a step behind Alcaraz throughout the match.<\/p>\n<p>Providing a potential reason for Sinner\u2019s below-par performance, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/nick-kyrgios\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nick Kyrgios\u2019<\/a> former coach has suggested the Italian may have been injured.<\/p>\n<p>Nick Kyrgios\u2019 former coach Simon Rea had a \u2018suspicion\u2019 that Jannik Sinner was injured<\/p>\n<p>During the latest episode of \u2018The Tennis\u2019 podcast, Kyrgios\u2019 former coach, Simon Rea, responded when asked if Sinner was \u2018carrying something\u2019 [an injury] in the US Open final.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt looked like that to me,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m in awe of him at his best, but it just looked like he was missing a gear or a level, so that was my suspicion watching it play out in real time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was wondering if it was the stomach; it looked like it was really impeding the serve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sinner\u2019s serve fell apart in the final, and was made to look even worse by Alcaraz\u2019s excellent performance on the other side of the net.<\/p>\n<p>PlayerAcesDouble faults1st Serve %Win % on 1st ServeWin % on 2nd ServeCarlos Alcaraz10061%83%57%Jannik Sinner2448%69%52%Serving stats from Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner<\/p>\n<p>Australia\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/billie-jean-king-cup\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Billie Jean King Cup<\/a> captain, Nicole Pratt, agreed, as she reflected on the injury time-out Sinner took in the semifinals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, in the semifinal, he had that injury timeout, and he\u2019d just lost the set, I was thinking, this is interesting,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen managed to get through, but for me, there was a question mark going into the final. I wonder if he\u2019s going to be at 100% fitness; there was something just off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GettyImages-2233662403-2-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Jannik Sinner reacts after losing the 2025 US Open final\" class=\"wp-image-129094\" \/>Photo by KENA BETANCUR\/AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Pratt proceeded to explain how an injury can affect a player\u2019s mentality heading into a match.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes players, when they carry something, it carries through in their mentality, I\u2019m just not sure he was as laser-focused and dialed in as he normally is when he\u2019s playing his best,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor him to lose a set 6-1\u2026 something\u2019s wrong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSinner was making unusual errors, like a regular forehand he\u2019s missed, not by much, but he\u2019s missed. And he doesn\u2019t normally do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Italian hadn\u2019t lost a set 6-1 since the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/italian-open\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Italian Open<\/a> in May [vs Tommy Paul], his first tournament back after a three-month suspension.<\/p>\n<p>Looking to bounce back, Sinner will make his return to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/atp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ATP Tour<\/a> action in Beijing, China.<\/p>\n<p>Who will Jannik Sinner compete against at the China Open?<\/p>\n<p>Assuming he\u2019s fit to participate, Sinner will compete at the China Open later this month, a tournament he won back in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, he won\u2019t be joined by his rival, Alcaraz, in Beijing, as the Spaniard chose to play the event in Tokyo instead.<\/p>\n<p>Undoubtedly a favorite to reach the final, Sinner will be challenged by a number of top-ten players at the ATP 500 tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Top eight seeds for the 2025 China Open1.
