Microsoft originally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/8\/31\/23853517\/microsoft-teams-unbundling-europe\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">unbundled Teams from Office<\/a> in Europe in 2023 in an attempt to address regulator concerns, and then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/4\/1\/24117785\/microsoft-teams-office-split-eu-regulation-antitrust-investigation\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">spun off Teams from Office 365<\/a> as its own separate app globally last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">\u201cOrganizations big and small across Europe and around the world rely heavily on videoconferencing, chat and collaboration tools, especially since the coronavirus pandemic,\u201d says Teresa Ribera, executive vice president for Clean, Just and Competitive Transition at the European Commission. \u201cToday\u2019s decision therefore opens up competition in this crucial market, and ensures that businesses can freely choose the communication and collaboration product that best suits their needs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">EU lawmakers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/7\/27\/23797305\/microsoft-teams-eu-antitrust-investigation-office-bundling-slack\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">first opened<\/a> a Microsoft antitrust investigation into Teams bundling in 2023, after Slack filed its anti-competitive complaint amid intense competition with Microsoft that developed after the covid-19 pandemic began.
