The human body needs at least 130 g of carbs daily just for basic function, and more if you&#8217;re physically active.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_16-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Some common short-term effects of ketosis include:\n<\/p>\n<p> IrritabilityConstipationFatigue\u201cKeto flu\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_20-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Long-term ketosis can also lead to dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, and diabetic ketoacidosis, a potentially fatal condition in which ketones build up in the blood in people with diabetes.\n<\/p>\n<p>  Do Low-Carb Diets Help You Lose Weight?  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_25-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Low-carb diets have been a popular strategy for weight loss for decades, but there\u2019s no clear consensus on what defines a \u201clow-carb.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_27-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Most studies consider carbohydrate intake under 26% of daily calories as low-carb, while nutrition guidelines tend to recommend anywhere between 45 to 65% as normal calorie intake for adults.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_29-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> One theory supporting low-carb diets, especially for people with diabetes, maintains that increasing protein and fat leads to greater satiety and fewer blood sugar dips, naturally reducing calorie intake.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_31-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Some clinical trials show <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link-ai\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/how-long-does-it-take-to-lose-weight-11704272\" link-destination-recommendation-ai=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">short-term weight loss<\/a> and better blood sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes, but these benefits often plateau within the year.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_33-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> \u201cIn the long term, the results of people doing low-carb versus other types of plants net out,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eatrightpro.org\/about-us\/for-media\/meet-our-spokespeople\/julie-stefanski\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Julie Stefanski, MEd, RDN, LDN, FAND<\/a>, a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, told Verywell.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_35-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> She added that low-carb diets are so restrictive and hard to stick with that the results are similar to other diets after a year.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>  Are Keto Diets Good for You?\u00a0  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_38-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> A well-known low-carb diet is Keto, limiting carbs to just 50 grams daily to keep the body in ketosis.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_40-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Even though Ketogenic diets can be helpful for people with diabetes or epilepsy in the short-term, their safety remains a bit unclear since there\u2019s no universally accepted definition, and evidence remains conflicted on their long-term efficacy.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_42-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> More research is needed before it can be confidently recommended for routine diabetic care.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe danger doesn\u2019t really come from being in that state for a short-term period.
