Speaking to Shapiro and author Tim Alberta on his show, Maher condemned political violence on both sides while pushing back on Shapiro\u2019s claims that the right \u201chasn\u2019t fired a bullet.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYour side has fired a lot of bullets,\u201d Maher said. \u201cAnd used hammers on Nancy Pelosi\u2019s husband, and used firebombs on Governor Shapiro\u2019s house.\u201d<\/p>\n
Shapiro interjected to say, \u201cIf we are not politically correct, then we understand that if there\u2019s a shooting at a synagogue, it is very likely to be either a white supremacist or a radical Muslim. If it\u2019s a shooting of a Republican politician, it is very likely to be trans, antifa, Marxist shooters.\u201d<\/p>\n
When Maher argued that nobody yet knows what the political views of the 22-year-old arrested for shooting Charlie Kirk are, Shapiro doubled down and claimed that Tyler Robinson was \u201cof the political left.\u201d<\/p>\n

Robinson\u2019s political views are unclear at this time. He comes from a Republican family<\/a>, but was himself an unaffiliated voter. While bullets<\/a> found at the scene featured anti-fascist messaging, the layers of irony, memes, and cultural references required to even begin trying to understand Robinson\u2019s motivations are numerous and disorienting<\/a>.<\/p>\n Trump went out to dinner, and people started to gather around him, chanting, “You’re the Hitler of our time!” He’s not Hitler, and calling somebody Hitler just makes it a lot easier to justify things like assassination. He may have been part of that group for whom Charlie Kirk was not right-wing enough. You\u2019re sure he\u2019s not that?\u201d<\/p>\n When Shapiro replied, \u201cI\u2019m not sure he\u2019s not that,\u201d Maher responded, \u201cOh? A minute ago you were sure of what he was.\u201d<\/p>\n Shapiro then went on to talk for over a minute about permission structures that enable violence, while slipping in his own pet causes including references to transgender people and immigration policy.<\/p>\n Having let Shapiro speak uninterrupted, Maher calmly replied, \u201cI think you are projecting your own intellectual rational world onto people who are not living in that universe.\u201d The host\u2019s comment was met with rapturous applause. <\/p>\n In the days following Kirk\u2019s death, Shapiro has described Kirk<\/a> as a \u201cfree speech martyr\u201d and decried the \u201crising tide of violence on the left,\u201d writing<\/a> in his publication The Daily Wire that \u201cit feels as though a tsunami is coming.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThat tsunami, if left unchecked, will wash away this entire republic.\u201d<\/p>\n Not mentioned by Shapiro were attacks<\/a> on Democrats like Paul Pelosi, Governor Josh Shapiro, the murders of Minnesota State Rep.
