A spirited comeback from Liverpool U18s was ended by Newcastle<\/a> U18s, who scored a late winner to triumph 4-3 at the academy.<\/p>\n

Under new coach Simon Wiles, Liverpool U18s have already shown themselves to be a vastly improved outfit from last season\u2019s side, which finished the U18 Premier League<\/a> with 19 points from 24 games.<\/p>\n

Despite defeat at Saturday lunchtime, this was another good showing from the Reds, for whom Finn Inglethorpe, Joe Bradshaw and Scofield Lonmeni scored.<\/p>\n

It was the academy director\u2019s son, Inglethorpe, who scored the first of the afternoon\u2019s seven goals, following up to score<\/a> the rebound from Josh Sonni-Lambie\u2019s shot.<\/p>\n

Liverpool were to hold the lead for only six minutes, though, as the visitors\u2019 Matthew Taylor equalised.<\/p>\n

Alfie Seldon was the man to put the Magpies ahead in the immediate moments after the break, following Mohamed Waddani\u2019s pass that he sprinted onto from a long throw.<\/p>\n

Eight minutes later, Waddani notched his second assist of the day, setting up Kacey Wooster to score Newcastle<\/a>\u2018s third. <\/p>\n

Liverpool didn\u2019t give in, however, and Alvin Ayman, who was filling in at left-back, put in a good cross for left Bradshaw to turn the ball home at the back post.<\/p>\n

With 11 minutes left to play, substitute Lonmeni then found a leveller, getting on the end of Sonni-Lambie\u2019s clever pass before converting.<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t to be for Liverpool, though. Bradshaw hit the post and as the Reds went for a winner, Newcastle<\/a> counter-attacked, resulting in Wooster finding the winner.<\/p>\n

While defeat will have been tough to swallow, it was another good performance from the under-18s, who have six points from their first three matches.<\/p>\n
