Championship table toppers York Knights have confirmed they have officially submitted their application to enter next year\u2019s Super League.<\/p>\n

The Knights were one of the clubs to register their interest last month and they have met the September 12 deadline to complete their formal application to become a top flight club. York currently sit on top of the Championship table and they look set to wrap up the League Leaders\u2019 Shield this weekend when they take on Batley Bulldogs.<\/p>\n

Should they win the league, they\u2019ll add that trophy to the 1895 Cup, which they won earlier this season and they have the opportunity to complete a treble with a Grand Final win next month.<\/p>\n

Whether that will be enough to secure a spot in Super League remains to be seen, though, with the IMG club grading system to be used by the panel when deciding who will be stepping up. With Salford Red Devils\u2019 future in the top flight looking more than uncertain, the expectation is that three teams will make the jump up and York are one of those fancied by many to be promoted.<\/p>\n

The decision will be announced on October 16, in the days following the Super League Grand Final.<\/p>\n

And, having completed their application and submitted it to the powers that be, York have released the following statement from chairman Clint Goodchild: \u201cYork RLFC is proud to confirm that the club has formally submitted its application to enter the Betfred Super League in 2026.<\/p>\n

Championship side Widnes Vikings have also confirmed they have submitted their formal application.<\/p>\n
