Jason Demetriou has agreed a three-year deal to become London Broncos’ new head coach as the club press for a Super League return.<\/p>\n

Demetriou, 49, was previously head coach of the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the National Rugby League in his native Australia.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, current head coach Mike Eccles confirmed the Broncos’ victory over Widnes Vikings in their final game of the Championship season would be his last match in charge.<\/p>\n

Broncos also confirmed on Monday their application to be part of the new-look 14-team Super League in 2026, adding they would be “recruiting several internationals” from the NRL.<\/p>\n

The club are proposing a new ownership group including Australia legend Darren Lockyer, former Leeds Rhinos chief executive officer Gary Hetherington and businessman Grant Wechsel.<\/p>\n

Lockyer previously promised to bring in the experienced Demetriou<\/a> if a takeover materialised.<\/p>\n

“A successful London club will help the Super League achieve maximum growth and potential,” Lockyer told the club website., external<\/a><\/p>\n

“To be a truly national competition and to grow the game’s exposure, finances and talent pool, the game should be represented in the nation’s capital, and the largest financial market in the world.<\/p>\n

“London is the largest greenfield market for rugby league growth; if anchored by a strong and sustainable club, the benefits to rugby league could be huge.”<\/p>\n
